Travel That Respects the Places It Depends On
Rift & Tide Africa believes that good travel should respect wildlife, communities, landscapes, cultures and the people who make each journey possible. East Africa’s beauty is not something to consume carelessly. It is something to experience with humility and care.
Responsible travel is not one gesture. It is a series of decisions made before and during the journey.
Wildlife Respect
Travellers must follow guide and ranger instructions around wildlife. Animals should never be chased, crowded, fed, touched or disturbed for photographs. Good sightings should never come at the expense of animal welfare or safety.
During gorilla and chimpanzee experiences, travellers must respect distance rules, health guidance and ranger instructions. These rules protect both visitors and primates.
Community Respect
East Africa is home to diverse cultures, languages and communities. Travellers should ask before photographing people, dress respectfully where appropriate, honour local customs and avoid treating communities as attractions.
Where cultural visits are included, they should be arranged respectfully and with benefit to the host community.
Local Economic Benefit
Where possible, Rift & Tide Africa supports the use of local guides, drivers, suppliers and experiences that contribute to the regional travel economy. We believe tourism works best when value remains close to the places visited.
